HISTORY:
Castiel is considered to be one of the younger angels that reside in Heaven, however he was present during the confrontation between the Archangel Michael and Lucifer. He was greatly unsettled by his elder brother’s extreme dislike toward their Father, God, and even more so by his fall. Unlike Uriel who admired Lucifer’s rebellious attitude and the belief in which man was inferior to the angels, Castiel was repulsed. As an angel of the Lord, Castiel desired to unquestioningly follow God, both aiding his brethren as well as earths inhabitants when need be.
A great deal of his knowledge came from the Archangel Zerachiel, who mentored him, teaching Castiel to retain his loyalty and love for God and humans, bearing in mind that they were made in the image of the Lord. Although, many angels considered this to be naïve on his part, Castiel embraced his dedication to God.
Jimmy Novak, a dutiful Christian, longed to assist the Lord. Castiel allowed Jimmy to become his vessel while on earth, not only because he was extremely faithful to God, he was also born with the ability to allow an angel to possess him without difficulty. Believing God has advised him to watch over the Winchester brothers in addition to lending them a hand down the road, Castiel disobeyed his superiors in order to carry out the Lord’s wishes.
